NCS Chinchillas

We are a small hobby breeder in Northeast Ohio. I started with successfully breeding skinny pigs, focusing on the Dalmatian gene. I worked hard, with my pigs ending up all over the US, but with the skinny pig trend increasing, so did the amount of backyard breeders. It became nearly impossible to bring in new unrelated lines into our program. As difficult as it was, I decided that I would rather discontinue our program than breed poor quality animals. Having that void of having something to focus on and work on bettering, while hanging out with our pet chinchilla, Raisin, the idea struck.

I started vigorously researching the details of breeding, genetics, husbandry, anything I could think of. I decided to start looking for a pedigreed pair to take those first steps into the pre-breeding world when I came across a retiring breeder selling her entire program of pedigreed chinchillas from long standing breeders that have made a real difference in the community. It was nerve-wracking... but I leapt. We came home with 44 chinchillas, all supplies and runs. I remember standing there at the end of the night thinking "What have I done?" But, the next morning, I felt such a peace and I have loved every minute of it.

I am grateful and blessed to have had some amazing breeders in my neck of the woods that have welcomed me and have been so willing to help me along this journey. When I attended my first ECBC show, I was a bundle of nerves but walked out feeling so alive, received some amazing education, and met some great people. I had taken 3 of my own chinchillas to show and came home with a Standard getting a 3rd, a Pink White getting a 1st, and an Angora getting Class Champion. Since then, my awards have grown, but most importantly, attending shows has given me so much knowledge, experience, and new friendships. I look forward to each show and encourage all new breeders to take that extra step to attend at least one show per year to have your animals assessed. I promise, it is also loads of fun.

We focus on Standards, Beige, White, and Angoras with smaller side projects of Violet and Black Velvet/TOV.
